Federal College of Education, (Special) Oyo Certificate Program

This program is in partnership with Federal College of Education, (Special) Oyo through RSETF.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

The participants in this programme should be able to:

• identify the causes and categories of exceptionalities;
• accommodate and harmoniously co-exist with person with special needs;
• locate referrals and specific assistance for a special needs condition;
• provide immediate support for person with special needs to ensure appropriate learning and life coping strategies;
• plan daily living skills for persons with special needs; and
• design basic therapies for persons with special needs.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

General Requirements

Prospective candidates must possess any of the following:

1. Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC) or GCE ‘O’ level with credit  passes in 4 subjects at one sitting or 6 subjects at two sittings including English language and any other 3 or 5 subjects as the case may be.
2. Grade II Teacher’s Certificate (TC II) with credit or merit in five subjects including English.
3. Relevant Diplomas and the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) or higher qualification in any discipline other than Special Education.
4. Matured applicants who do not possess the above qualifications may apply. Such candidates can be experienced professionals or parents with good ability to speak and write English Language, must provide information in respect of professional competence and recommendation from competent individuals.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR REGULAR CERTIFICATE IN SPECIAL EDUCATION

1. Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC) with a minimum of   four (4) credit passes at one (1) sitting or five (5) credit passes at two (2) sittings from West African Examination Council (WAEC)/ National Examination Council (NECO)
2. Grade II Teacher’s Certificate (TC II) with Credit or Merit in five (5) subjects including English language.
3. Any other equivalent qualification as specified in the General Admission Requirements above.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ADVANCED CERTIFICATE IN SPECIAL EDUCATION

1. Certificate in Special Education.
2. Diplomas, Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and any other higher qualifications in any discipline other than Special Education.
3. Any other equivalent qualification as specified in the General Admission Requirements above.

DURATION OF PROGRAMMES   

The duration for each of the programmes (Certificate and Advanced Certificate) shall be one-year spanning through three (3) Segments. Each of the segments shall be for a period of fourteen (14) weeks, the period for examination (two weeks) inclusive.

MODES OF TEACHING

All teaching shall be in distance learning mode (with just two physical contacts for registration and examination).

Application Fee for NCE program is N7,500:00.

Tuition Fee: N64,000 Per Term
